Pre-pregnancy vitamin ranking - best pre-pregnancy vitamins 2025

Trying to have a baby is a period when a woman should take special care of her health, a balanced diet and adequate supplementation. Vitamins for women trying to get pregnant are crucial to ensure the proper development of the foetus and to make up for any deficiencies. A supplement for fertility support should include essential ingredients such as folic acid, iodine, vitamin D3 and, in case of deficiencies, iron. Folic acid is particularly important for the normal development of the baby's nervous and cardiovascular systems, and supplementation is recommended to start 12 weeks before the planned pregnancy. If you are wondering what to supplement before pregnancy, it is worth paying attention to the recommendations of the Polish Gynaecological Society. In the following ranking, we present the best supplements for women planning pregnancy, which support the health of the mother and the development of the baby. Take a look at our list and choose a supplement for women planning pregnancy that meets all your expectations. Remember, however, that it is best to consult your doctor for any pregnancy-related supplementation.

The ranking factors we took into account are:

  • Effectiveness
  • Composition
  • Dosage of ingredients per serving
  • Ease of use
  • Efficiency
  • No side effects
  • Price

What ingredients to look for in good vitamins for women trying for pregnancy?

Folic acid - Crucial for normal foetal development, especially in the first few weeks of pregnancy. Helps prevent neural tube defects in the baby.

Vitamin D3 - Supports bone health and the immune system. Helps with calcium absorption, which is important for both the mother and the developing baby.

Magnesium - Important for muscle and nervous system function. Helps regulate blood sugar levels and protein synthesis.

Iodine - Essential for the proper functioning of the thyroid gland, which regulates the hormones responsible for the development of the baby's brain and nervous system.

Omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA) - Support fetal brain and eye development. They also benefit the mother's health by supporting her cardiovascular system.

Vitamin and mineral complex - A well-balanced supplement should also contain other vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin B12, iron, zinc and calcium, to provide comprehensive support for the health of the mother and developing baby.

Parenton Woman from Gardenpharm is a dietary supplement designed for women planning pregnancy, with carefully selected ingredients. The product contains key vitamins and minerals to support the health of the mother-to-be. Our group appreciated the simplicity and richness of the Parenton Woman capsule formula, which contains adequate doses of folic acid, iodine, myo-inositol, choline and zinc. This combination supports normal foetal development, fertility maintenance, thyroid function and energy metabolism. Regular use of Parenton Woman also supports the synthesis of vitamins B6 and B12 and DNA. The supplement is efficient, the capsules are easy to swallow and the improvement in wellbeing and physical condition is quickly noticeable. Our group found Parenton Woman to be the best supplement prior to a planned pregnancy, despite the lack of fatty acids, but these can be supplemented very easily with dedicated products.

Another supplement we have tested for women before pregnancy is Omegamed Optima Start from a Polish manufacturer, Polski Lek. Unlike most of the other items, this time we are dealing with a simple, four-ingredient supplement, which supplies the body with folic acid, DHA, vitamin D3 and iodine. These ingredients are not in the highest concentrations, but on the other hand, these are safe doses for pregnant women. The algae-derived DHA content is also a plus, as many pregnant women are particularly sensitive to flavours and this form of fatty acids does not leave a fishy aftertaste. If there are no problems with test results, Omegamen Optima Start should work well as a pre-pregnancy vitamin.

MamaDHA Premium+ is a pre-pregnancy vitamin, especially recommended for women preparing for motherhood. The supplement contains key ingredients such as folic acid to support proper blood production, DHA to support vision and brain development, iodine for proper thyroid function and vitamin D3 for bone, dental and immune health. Our testers had mixed feelings about the composition of MamaDHA, noting the presence of artificial colours and magnesium oxide, which is a less absorbable form of magnesium. The pack lasts for 30 days, making the product relatively affordable. Additional disadvantages pointed out by testers included an unpleasant fishy taste and smell and the large size of the capsules.

Femibion 0 Pregnancy Planning is a pre-pregnancy vitamin designed to prepare a woman's body for pregnancy. The supplement contains a dual source of folate - folic acid and calcium L-methylfolate to support normal foetal development. It also contains vitamins B6 and B12 to support energy metabolism, iodine for normal thyroid function, vitamin D3 for healthy bones and teeth and vitamin E to protect against oxidative stress. Our testers had reservations about the presence of artificial colours and the low doses of iodine and vitamin D3 in the formulation. They also complained about the tablets being unpleasant to swallow and, despite the affordable price, the small number of tablets per pack.

Folic Active is a dietary supplement aimed at both pregnant women and those just trying to get pregnant. The composition is based on six active ingredients, which at first glance looks quite inviting, but upon further analysis we come to the conclusion that, unfortunately, it is not the best proposition. First of all, the name may be misleading, as Active in the name may suggest the presence of an active form of folic acid, when in fact it is just ordinary folic acid in a standard dose. In addition, ingredients such as niacin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, vitamin B6 and thiamin can be found in the tablets, but the doses are low. In practice, the Folic Active supplement offers a similar effect to pure folic acid and therefore closes our list.
