The best serums for facial hyperpigmentation - TOP 5 ranking in 2025

The best serums for facial hyperpigmentation - TOP 5 ranking in 2025

A serum for hyperpigmentation is a key part of effective facial care, especially when struggling with uneven skin tone. Such a serum is a specialised product designed to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation, even out skin tone and prevent the formation of new pigmentation irregularities. The formulations of these products often include active ingredients such as vitamin C, azelaic acid, arbutin or kojic acid to not only lighten existing discolouration, but also to protect the skin from UV and free radical damage. Serums for hyperpigmentation are an essential part of a daily skincare routine for those wishing to maintain youthful, even and radiant looking skin.

The ranking factors we considered were:

  • Lightening of hyperpigmentation
  • Time to see results
  • Consistency
  • Performance
  • Lack of irritation
  • Composition
  • Price

What ingredients can a good serum for hyperpigmentation contain?

  • Hyaluronic acid - helps to hydrate the skin, which can improve its appearance and texture.
  • Vitamin C - has skin brightening properties and can help reduce hyperpigmentation. It is also a powerful antioxidant that protects the skin from free radical damage.
  • Glycolic acid - this type of fruit acid can help exfoliate dead skin and improve skin texture.
  • Salicylic acid - can help to reduce acne blemishes and prevent the appearance of new ones. Niacinamide (vitamin B3) - has brightening properties and helps to regulate melanin production, which is important in the fight against hyperpigmentation.
  • Plant extracts - such as kojic acid, liquorice extract or rosehip extract. These ingredients are known for their skin-brightening properties.
  • SPF filter - helps to protect the skin from further worsening of hyperpigmentation caused by UV radiation.

The Bielenda serum from the Supremelab series is an effective cosmetic for skin with problems of hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone and signs of fatigue. Its formulation, rich in vitamin C and ferulic acid, has received positive feedback from our testers for its ability to lighten dark spots and revitalise the complexion. The serum has a gel-like consistency that absorbs quickly, but requires regular application for visible results. Despite its small 15ml capacity and relatively quick consumption, this product stands out as an effective brightening serum. Although it doesn't top the rankings, it is worth considering using in your daily skincare routine.

Vitamin C serum from The Ordinary, a brand known for its popular 'bloody serum', was put to the test for us. Although it did not generate as much enthusiasm as its famous counterpart, our testers were pleased with its results. The serum requires regular use for the discolouration lightening effect to become noticeable. On the plus side, the product is effective and long-lasting. Its main downside, however, is its sticky texture, which can make it difficult to apply the serum under make-up. Nevertheless, as an evening face care product, The Ordinary's vitamin C serum does quite well.

AMVI Cosmetics' serum, with its pleasantly citrusy fragrance, quickly won the approval of our testers. The serum's formula is easily absorbed, leaving no greasy film. Testers noticed a significant improvement in the hydration, softness and smoothness of their skin after using it. However, the dispensing pipette proved insufficiently effective for the thick consistency of the serum, making application difficult. AMVI Cosmetics' serum, despite its small capacity, did not live up to expectations in terms of reducing wrinkles or adding radiance to the skin. Furthermore, the design of the packaging leaves much to be desired.

British brand Medik8 has gained popularity, although its products are not among the cheapest. Testers had the opportunity to test the effects of the Medik8 C-Tetra vitamin C serum, and their opinions were divided. The serum is effective in brightening hyperpigmentation and is effective, but its oily texture makes it not ideal under make-up. Due to its exorbitant price, the Medik8 serum did not score highly in our ranking, especially when we compare it with cheaper but equally effective alternatives.
